The occupational structure highlights the distribution of total working population of an economy. The working population is categorized on the basis of three sectors i.e.
Agricultural or Private Sector-
It comprises of individuals who are involved in agriculture and related activities such as fishing and mining.
Industrial or Secondary Sector –
This is the manufacturing sector and includes all large and small scale industries.
Tertiary or Service Sector –
This particular division includes various services such as banking, buy and sell, transport, communication etc.
The recent statistics bring to light the fact that in undeveloped or developing countries, a large proportion of working population is engaged in agriculture whereas on the other hand, in case of developed countries a large number of individuals derive there earnings from industrial sector.
